First-person video just got a massive upgrade on Instagram. If you own a pair of Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta, or the new Meta Glasses, your Stories are about to become a lot more interactive.
Meta is officially deepening the tie between its wearable hardware and its biggest social platform. On Thursday, the company rolled out a dedicated suite of Story creation tools designed specifically to leverage the unique capabilities of smart glasses, allowing creators to produce immersive, hands-free content without ever leaving the Instagram app.
Here is a breakdown of the new features and how they are changing the way we document our daily lives.
Spin View: Breaking the Static Frame
The most exciting addition to the lineup is Spin View. For years, Instagram Stories have been strictly confined to a fixed, vertical rectangle. Spin View completely shatters that limitation.
When a creator uploads compatible footage shot from their smart glasses, followers don't just watch it—they interact with it. Viewers can physically tilt or rotate their smartphones to pan across the creator's full field of vision. Using the phone's gyroscope, the audience can look around the scene, making them feel like they are experiencing the moment right alongside the creator rather than just watching a static video.
Multi-Cam: Two Perspectives, One Story
If you've ever wanted to show what you're seeing and your reaction to it at the exact same time, Multi-Cam is the answer.
This feature allows you to combine footage recorded simultaneously on your Meta smart glasses and your smartphone into a single, synchronized Story. The app automatically lines up the clips, displaying both angles at once. It is a perfect tool for hands-on tutorials, travel vlogging, or behind-the-scenes content where capturing the action and the creator's face adds crucial context.
Native Editing Built for Wearables
Moving footage from your glasses to your phone and then into a third-party editor can be a massive friction point. To solve this, Instagram introduced native editing tools right inside the Story editor, tailored specifically for wearable content:
Expand: Intelligently reframes wide-angle footage to keep the primary subject in focus on standard mobile screens.
Audio: A dedicated filter that reduces ambient background noise (like wind) and enhances voice recordings for much clearer narration.
Speed: Allows creators to quickly slow down or accelerate clips to match the pacing of their Story.
How to Access the Tools
Using the new features is incredibly straightforward. Media captured using compatible Meta smart glasses will now appear in your phone's gallery marked with a specific glasses icon.
When you select one of these clips for a Story, simply tap that same glasses icon on the editing screen to access the dedicated menu for Spin View, Multi-Cam, and the advanced editing suite.
