Apple is gearing up for what could be one of its most hardware-packed years in recent memory.
As the tech giant approaches the 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027, a new report from Bloomberg reveals that Apple is planning a sweeping overhaul of its premium computing lineup. The roadmap includes testing four new iPad Pro variants and preparing the first major chassis redesign of the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro in years.
Here is a breakdown of what to expect from Apple's Mac and iPad pipeline over the next couple of years.
The K104 MacBook Pro Redesign
The biggest physical change is coming to the Mac side of the lineup. Bloomberg reports that Apple is preparing a redesigned entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, internally codenamed K104.
The K104 model is expected to adopt a fresh chassis similar to the redesigned higher-end MacBook Pro models that are reportedly arriving later this year. This represents a significant shift in strategy. Apple had actually already completed work on another entry-level refresh (codenamed J804) that featured the existing design and a standard M6 chip. However, the company now appears to be scrapping or deprioritizing that iteration in favor of the fully redesigned K104 model.
iPad Pro: Focus on Internal Power
While the MacBook Pro gets a facelift, the upcoming iPad Pro refresh will focus almost entirely on raw performance and thermal management.
Apple is reportedly testing four new iPad Pro models targeted for a spring 2027 launch.
The Display: The devices will stick to the existing 11-inch and 13-inch size formats without any major exterior design changes.
The Cooling: Apple has been testing a vapor chamber cooling system for the new tablets. This would drastically improve sustained performance and prevent overheating during intensive workloads like video editing, gaming, and local AI processing.
This update will follow the most recent iPad Pro refresh from October 2025, which introduced the M5 chip alongside a noticeable price hike (with the 11-inch now starting at $1,199 and the 13-inch at $1,499). The report also firmly shuts down ongoing rumors of an 18.8-inch foldable iPad Pro arriving in 2027, noting that these four devices are standard, iterative upgrades to the current lineup.
Accelerating the M7 Chip
Driving both of these new product lines is an accelerated silicon strategy. Apple is reportedly aiming to introduce its M7 processor as early as the first half of 2027.
By fast-tracking the M7 generation, Apple plans to skip the Pro and Max variants of the M6 series altogether. This unusually aggressive timeline is specifically intended to optimize Apple Silicon for increasingly demanding, on-device artificial intelligence workloads.
However, Bloomberg cautions that this ambitious roadmap is not set in stone. Ongoing global memory and chip supply constraints could still force Apple to adjust its timeline and push these highly anticipated releases further down the calendar.
