Samsung Relocates US Headquarters to Texas
Samsung Electronics America is undergoing a major corporate restructuring. According to a recently filed Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) reviewed by Reuters, the tech giant is reducing its workforce by 739 jobs at its Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey location.
This reduction comes as Samsung prepares to officially relocate its United States headquarters from New Jersey to Texas by the end of 2026.
The Shift to Texas
The Englewood Cliffs division primarily handles the sales and marketing of Samsung Electronics' consumer products, including displays, smartphones, TVs, and home appliances. (This specific relocation does not include Samsung's semiconductor business).
Currently, the unit employs approximately 1,200 workers in New Jersey. In a statement addressing the move, Samsung emphasized that this shift is part of a broader strategy to optimize its operations.
"This process may lead to changes in our workforce structure, such as employees who are unable to relocate, or certain functions that are optimized to ensure our roles align to key business priorities," the company stated.
Relocation Opportunities Over Layoffs
While the WARN notice—which is legally required by U.S. law when employers issue mass layoffs or close plants—indicates 739 affected roles, Samsung is pushing back against characterizing the situation as a simple layoff.
The company clarified that the vast majority of the affected employees in New Jersey have been offered relocation opportunities to move with the headquarters to Texas. The exact number of employees who will choose to relocate versus those who will ultimately exit the company remains unspecified.
