Google AI Suggests DuckDuckGo to Avoid AI Results
In an ironic twist, Google’s own AI-powered search tool is actively recommending a competitor. If you are looking to escape AI-generated results, Google's AI Overview suggests making the switch to DuckDuckGo.
DuckDuckGo recently highlighted this unexpected advice on X (formerly Twitter). They shared a screenshot of Google’s AI Overview answering a direct query for the search terms "no ai." The response was surprisingly candid and helpful.
Google's AI stated: “If you are looking to avoid generative AI in your daily searches and browsing, you can use privacy-focused platforms like the DuckDuckGo No-AI Search.”
What is DuckDuckGo No-AI Search?
Along with the recommendation, Google provided a direct link to DuckDuckGo’s dedicated No-AI search engine. This specific version of the privacy-focused platform strips away all modern generative tools to deliver a classic search experience.
When using the No-AI search, users will not see "AI-assisted answers," "AI-generated images," or any "AI feature suggestions." It offers a streamlined return to traditional web browsing for those who prefer straightforward links.
Interestingly, DuckDuckGo’s standard search page does offer AI capabilities for those who want them. However, in keeping with their strict consumer privacy standards, these AI results are completely turned off by default.
Alternative Browsers for an AI-Free Experience
DuckDuckGo isn't the only solution Google provided for users frustrated with generative AI. The AI Overview also noted that users can easily remove AI results by switching their primary web browser.
Specifically, Google mentioned that privacy-centric web browsers like Brave offer built-in settings to disable AI features. As generative tech continues to dominate the internet, it seems even Google acknowledges the growing consumer demand for an AI-free alternative.
